While heat treatment (according to ISPM 15) hardly changes the moisture content of the wood, drying, also known as KD treatment (kiln drying), significantly reduces the moisture content.
Wood drying
What is the difference between wood drying and heat treatment?
What is the difference between KD treatment, wood drying and chamber drying?
As a rule, all these terms refer to the same thing – the drying of wood.
Does KD treatment also comply with the ISPM15 regulation?
Almost every KD treatment meets the requirements of an HT treatment.
What residual moisture content is permitted in wood after KD treatment?
After KD treatment, the wood may have a maximum residual moisture content of 20%.
Why dry the wood?
Drying is the only way to reliably protect wooden packaging materials from mould and/or blue stain.
Is KD goods automatically marked with an IPPC stamp?
No, KD goods are not subject to any labelling requirements.
Of course, the goods can be stamped with an IPPC stamp upon request.
Good to know:
Our crates are always made from KD material.
KD goods are not automatically stamped with an IPPC stamp.
Chamber-dried wooden packaging materials are lighter than fresh or heat-treated ones.
Drying takes significantly longer than heat treatment.
